The role of Council
Members of Council are elected at large, and Council chooses one Councillor to serve as Mayor until the next organizational meeting. The Mayor is the Chief Elected Official.
The powers of municipal governments are set out in the Alberta Municipal Government Act. Council sets direction, passes bylaws and the budget; the Chief Administrative Officer and staff carry out Council’s decisions.
Council meetings
Council meetings are open to the public. Agendas are posted before each meeting, and minutes once they are approved.
